Calculated Members

May 28, 2013 at 4:45 AM
Hi,
I've been trying to create a calculated member in excel 2007 vba manually so that the member would show on the pivot table as a separate field. I've been following the instructions in this post:
http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-excel/archive/2008/02/05/common-questions-around-excel-2007-olap-pivottables.aspx

However, following the instructions exactly did not work for me just because I did not have [All] specified in the following "Name" syntax:
[Parent].[Child].[New Name]

But thankfully due to this forum and the helpful hint by the coordinator in the earlier post, that saved me a lot of time and pain.
My question is that why should there be [All] to get this to work. Could someone please explain?

Many thanks for that Tip!!

The [All] is telling it that the new calculation should be a child of the All member which is the grand total.
