Error trying to Open Embedded Excel2007 Docs with Add-in Active

Sep 1, 2011 at 5:56 PM

Hi ,

We’re having an issue with the OLAP PivotTable Extensions add-in. When it’s active, we cannot open embedded Excel tables that are connected to SSAS Cubes within Word docs.

If I just go in and de-activate the add-in , however, the embedded Excel table will open (this requires re-booting which I’m not ready to do at this point, but it does work).

I’d like some help in figuring out a way to have the add-in activated and still allow embedded Excel tables to open.

We are running word2007,excel2007 with SSAS 2008 and the latest version of the add-in . The Error message is "Microsoft Office Word can't start the application required to open this object.
An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?"

Wow. I didn't know you could do that! Can you walk me through step by step how you created that?

Sorry about the problems my tool is causing. I'll try to reproduce this and fix it in a future version of OLAP PivotTable Extensions.

I'm able to reproduce this error in Excel 2010 and Word 2010 with OLAP PivotTable Extensions. The error message I get is "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object." when you try to double click on an excel object in a Word file.

Looks like my add-in is not the only add-in that's had problems with this:

Still working on a fix. Will keep you posted.

This code appears to be the trick to solve this problem. I'll look into implementing this in OLAP PivotTable Extensions.

Thanks for reporting this issue. I'll post back here as I make progress.

This fix is in release 0.7.2, which is currently in beta. Please go to the Downloads tab, then click 0.7.2 on the top right. Please test this out and let me know whether it fixed the problem for you.
