Can't start on new PC

Sep 27, 2011 at 3:25 PM

First of all, many thanks for this excellent addition to Excel! I've used it for several years as OLAP cubes are used a lot where I work.

Having changed my PC, I can't get OLAP PivotTable Extensions to run. I get an error message:

I tried to re-install the add-in but still get the same error message.

Any ideas?

That's a new bit of code in release 0.7.2. Help me troubleshoot what's going on here, please.

Open Excel (and click OK in any error messages) then press Alt+F11 then Ctrl+G. Then type the following into the Immediate Window and hit Enter:

In my Excel 2010, it returns:

I'm wondering what it returns for you and why I can't parse what it returns as a decimal.

I get the error messages only after I try to use OLAP PivotTable Extensions, not when I start Excel.

Ah. You must have your language set to a language which uses commas instead of decimals. I think 12.0 couldn't be parsed because it was looking for 12,0 and gave an error.

I think changing the code from:

decimal.Parse("12.0", System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture.NumberFormat)

should fix the problem. Let me work on a new release with this fix. Until then, you can install release 0.7.1, or just wait.

As you guessed, I use "," as decimal separator, not "."

I installed version 0.7.1 instead, it works as you expected!

Thanks for swift replies!

I must say that I'm extremely impressed with both this extension to Excel and the response time when there´s a problem.
